The ASCENT project empowers tuberculosis (TB) patients and local healthcare workers (HWC) by enabling the use of digital adherence technology (DAT) for TB treatment. In this video, made in Tanzania, a HWC explains the use of one of the DATs provided by the ASCENT project: the smart pillbox from evriMED.
The smart pillbox indicates with light signals when a TB patient has to take their medication. This way, the pillbox helps prevent that the patient misses a dose. This video explains exactly what is involved in using the smart pillbox: explanation of the use to the patient, refilling the medication, charging the pillboxes and reuse.
John Lyimo, a TB patient from Tanzania using the smart pillbox, says: “The smart pillbox helps me properly. Secondly, I take my medication timely. Third advantage, it has helped me to have a good adherence to treatment”. He recommends that the intervention gets scaled up to other facilities and regions.
